Spread Your Wings
Written By Hoda Samiee Flores

“The greatest obstacle to the practice is one’s own prejudices based on one’s own preferences.” (Source: Jivamukti Yoga Chant Book)
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself
just as I am, than I can change.”
-American Psychologists Carl Rogers
~
Close your eyes
and be still,
pausing for just this moment in time.
~
Embody the spirit of a bird
A set of wings on your back
Trust these wings
Believe in their strength
Their power
Their wisdom
~
These wings are not separate from you
These wings are you
Now spread your wings
The wing on your left
is the wing of clear seeing
Seeing clearly all that is around you
All that is you
Not just outside of you, but what’s inside of you
If there is fear, be with it
If there is pain, be with it
If there is anxiety, be with it
~
The wing on your right
is the wing of compassion.
Feel tenderness towards the fear, pain, anxiety
Feel it in all its entirety
In the body and the breath
~
With compassion
honour this experience
Allow it to lift you up
High up in the blue sky
Where the past and future does not exist
But only this moment
~
Spread your wings
Open your heart
Open your mind
To this space
Where only love exists.
Find your balance and clarity
To guide you
and together we will fly.
